Multiple NTFS Permissions
- NTFS Permissions are cummulative
- File permissions override folder permissions
- Deny overrides other permissions
Copy & Moving
- Copying always wipes orig permissions
- Only MOVING in the SAME PARTITION retains the permissions
Encryption
- The administrator of the computer is always able to view the encrypted file of anyone who has encrypted a file on the computer
- The administrator profile posesses the recovery key for each encrypted file.
Sharing & Distributed File System (DFS)
- net share command at the command prompt shows all your current shared folders
- you can also see shares in the computer mgmt area when you right-click My Computer
- net view shows shares of other computers on the network
- Put a $ at the end of your share name when you want a shared folder to be secret
- Only 1 DFS root is allowed per server
- system is kind of buggy, has been corrected in Windows Server 2003 so that the gui prevents nesting DFS'
